Tempocentrism
A concept in strategic foresight and anticipatory governance
The habit of treating the present as the template for the future. It leads institutions to plan as if current conditions will continue, even when the evidence suggests they will not.
Background
The word follows the pattern of ethnocentrism. Where ethnocentrism treats one’s own culture as the standard, tempocentrism treats one’s own moment in time as the standard. It is hard to notice because the present always feels normal.
A question it raises
Which parts of this plan assume the next ten years will look like the last ten?
