/ SERVICES

What the Lab offers.

→ Service 01

Strategic foresight workshops

Workshops provide a structured environment for leaders to engage directly with uncertainty. Participants examine assumptions, explore key drivers of change, and develop scenarios that describe different future conditions. Sessions are designed to expand how leaders think about the future and to surface the implications of those futures for institutional direction.

→ Service 02

Anticipatory governance for boards

This work focuses on training governing boards to incorporate foresight into their own practices. It equips trustees and presidents with practical approaches they can apply locally to make the future an explicit part of decision-making. Boards learn how to test decisions across multiple futures, surface underlying assumptions, and expand time horizons.

→ Service 03

Policy briefs & signals analysis

Policy briefs and signals analysis translate emerging trends and early indicators of change into usable insights for leaders. These briefs focus on "what if" questions and the implications of shifting conditions, providing a way to engage the future in a disciplined and accessible format.

→ Service 04

Experiential foresight installations

Experiential installations create immersive environments where participants can engage with future scenarios in a tangible way. Designed for conferences or campus settings, these installations allow individuals to move through different possible futures, encounter their implications, and reflect on how those futures would shape institutional choices.

→ Service 05

Foresight-informed strategic planning

Strategic planning engagements focus on the development of long-range plans grounded in strategic foresight. Rather than relying on a single assumed future, these efforts use scenarios to explore a range of possible conditions, define a preferred direction, and develop a plan that is resilient across different futures.

→ Service 06

Executive retreats & leadership sessions

Executive retreats and leadership sessions provide space for presidents, cabinets, and system leaders to step back from immediate demands and consider long-term direction. Sessions focus on the implications of change, institutional identity, and the choices required to navigate uncertainty.

The Future, Reexamined

Strategic Foresight Workshop · Community College League of California · January 2026

Fifteen CEOs and trustees from California community colleges convened to surface assumptions worth reexamining, map the drivers reshaping the system through the STEEP framework, build four distinct scenarios for the next 10–15 years, and shape a preferred vision for the California Community College system.

Five Scenarios for 2035

Scenario Development · State Fair Community College, Missouri

Five distinct ten-year scenarios for State Fair Community College—from K–12 partnership integration and student-success leadership, to earn-and-learn workforce models, a community-hub campus, and an AI-powered smart campus. Each scenario was rendered as a visual narrative with headlines, voices, and signature artifacts to make the future tangible for leaders, faculty, and the community.

Four Plausible Futures for the Decade Ahead

Strategic Foresight Report · 2×2 Scenario Matrix

A scenario report built around a 2×2 matrix combining two critical uncertainties: who the college's primary student population will be, and what the dominant credential structure will become. The report develops four resulting futures—The Legacy Campus, Stackable Pathways, Reskilling Academy, and Workforce on Demand—each with strategic questions to guide institutional decision-making.
